A Gulfport man is accused of driving under the influence and hitting a pedestrian.
Gulfport police Sgt. Damon McDaniel said the accident happened on Feb. 19, around 10 p.m. when Mark Edwards, 74, was driving on Three Rivers Road. Police report the vehicle Edwards was driving hit a man walking near Seaway Road.
The pedestrian was taken to an area hospital then air lifted to a hospital in Mobile, AL, for treatment. Police said the pedestrian later died from injuries sustained in the accident.
McDaniel said an arrest warrant was then issued for Edwards. Edwards turned himself in to the Gulfport Police Department on Feb. 25. He was taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Facility. He has since bonded out of jail.
Edwards is charged with felony driving under the influence causing death.
