3 Louisiana men face sentencing in federal court after guilty pleas to deer ... - The Tribune

GULFPORT, Mississippi — Three Pearl River, Louisiana, men and their family-run company will be sentenced Oct. 30 in U.S. District Court in Gulfport on federal deer-smuggling charges.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1CBbzA8) sentencing had been scheduled for this week for 67-year-old Ronald Reine; his son, 44-year-old Brian Reine; and grandson, 27-year-old Bruce Swilley; and his company, Omni Pinnacle LLC.

U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden moved the sentencing to Oct. 30.

They pleaded guilty in July to illegally imported 52 white-tailed deer from four states in 2011 and 2012 to wildlife enclosures in south Mississippi.

Importing white-tailed deer into Mississippi violates laws that protect the state's deer population from bovine tuberculosis and chronic wasting disease.

The deer allegedly were brought from Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Louisiana for breeding and hunting.
