GULFPORT, Mississippi — Two Alabama men have been found guilty of carrying out a series of eight bank robberies across the Southeast, U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis and FBI Acting Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp said.

Keith Kiel, 38, of Mobile, Alabama, and Randy Marshall, 34, of Pritchard, Alabama, were charged with robberies spanning from March 2008 through May 2013 in Mississippi, Alabama and Florida, Davis said in a news release Tuesday.

Following a two-week trial in federal court in Gulfport, Kiel was convicted of 11 separate counts including bank robbery, conspiracy to commit bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during a violent felony, interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle and witness intimidation.

Marshall was convicted of 17 counts of bank robbery, conspiracy to commit bank robbery, brandishing a firearm during a violent felony and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.

Chief U.S. District Judge Louis Guirola, Jr. will sentence both on Oct. 14. Sentences range from 25 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count of bank robbery to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count of conspiracy.

From March 2008 to June 2008, the men robbed three banks: Regions Bank in Ocean Springs, Mississippi; First Federal Savings and Loan in Gautier, Mississippi and Regions Bank in Biloxi, Mississippi.

In December 2012, they robbed Merchants & Marine Bank in Moss Point, Mississippi.

In 2013, they robbed Wells Fargo Bank in Pensacola, Florida; Hancock Bank in Gulfport, Mississippi; Bancorp South in Greenville, Alabama; and Hancock Bank in Moss Point, Mississippi.

"Most of an approximately four-year gap in the robberies coincided with a period from July 2008 to May 2012 when defendant Randy Marshall was in continuous custody for another conviction," Davis said.

Two other defendants, Lamarcus Moore and Reginald Robinson, both of Saraland, Alabama, previously pleaded guilty to related charges and were cooperating witnesses against Kiel and Marshall.

Moore pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery and one count of conspiracy to commit bank robbery. He will be sentenced Sept. 4.

Robinson pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bank robbery and will be sentenced on July 28.
