GULFPORT -- Despite a last hour push by developers of Hemingway Resort and Casino, the 5 p.m. deadline Tuesday passed without the developers closing on the financing for the casino at the Gulfport Harbor.

"The time has come and gone," said Allen Godfrey, executive director of the Mississippi Gaming Commission.

On Monday developers of the Scarlet Pearl Casino in D'Iberville missed their deadline for securing financing for a $250 million resort. They will have to start over in the Gaming Commission review process when they are able to get the funds.

Rotate Black MS LLC has site approval for the casino on a 9.5-acre site near the intersection of U.S 90 and 49. In a January press release said the company was moving ahead to close on financing for what is now a $130 million development.

Plans for the resort, based on the life of author Ernest Hemingway, call for a 35,000 square foot casino floor, a 205-room hotel, three restaurants and a swimming pool with cabanas and bar overlooking the marina.

Dual Cooper, Rotate Black MS CEO said in the press release, "We've designed a fantastic facility, hired the best general contractor in Yates Anderson and when open we'll deliver a world class gaming and entertainment experience."
