Coroner: Body found in Old Fort Bayou is missing Gulfport woman - SunHerald

OCEAN SPRINGS -- A Gulfport woman reported missing after she failed to show up at work Wednesday has been found dead, her family and Harrison County Coroner Gary Hargrove have confirmed.

Officials with the state Department of Marine Resources on Sunday pulled the body of Ashley Kaye Condon, 28, from the waters of Old Fort Bayou near the Gulf Hills and Cherokee Glen neighborhoods around 1 p.m.

Hargrove said a picture of Condon was compared to the body and authorities identified Condon.

"She had been in the water for some time," Hargrove said.

An autopsy is scheduled Monday to determine the cause of death and whether any foul play was involved.

Hargrove said Codon's vehicle was found parked near the Biloxi Bay Bridge, where walkers usually park before they walk on the bridge.

Condon's family had reported her missing after she failed to show up at work at Garden Park Medical Center on Wednesday evening. She worked the 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift and was last seen leaving for work at 6 p.m.

Her sister, Melody Smith, said in an earlier interview Condon was a "homebody" and her life revolved around her infant son, who turns 1 in May, and her job.

Condon's family became worried when a co-worker called at 2 p.m. Thursday to ask why she never showed up for work the day before. Condon never missed work, her sister said.

Police later tracked Condon's cellphone and determined the phone died shortly after she left to go to work Wednesday and the last traceable call was from her home. She and her son lived with her mother.

An investigation is ongoing.
