JACKSON, Mississippi — The Mississippi Supreme Court will hear arguments in a Gulfport annexation case July 22.
Biloxi and Gulfport have battled since 2009 over the same territory, especially along the new Mississippi Highway 605 corridor. Harrison County has also opposed the annexation.
Harrison County Chancery Judge Thomas L. Zebert dismissed the case in 2001, saying he would not allow Gulfport to alter plans for the delivery of municipal improvements in the middle of a trial on the annexation.
Zebert says Gulfport should adopt a new annexation ordinance, file an amended petition and republish public notices as required.
Gulfport appealed and argued the new documents it filed did not alter the area to the annexed. The city says it only sought to update things like engineering plans and cost estimates for providing services.
