GULFPORT, Mississippi — Harrison County Emergency Director Rupert Lacy says low-lying roads near the county's two rivers are beginning to flood as a second wave of thunderstorms crosses the Mississippi coast.

Lacy says he did not have any reports of flooded buildings as of early Tuesday afternoon.

He says numerous roads in Biloxi and Gulfport flooded before dawn, during storms that dumped up to 3 inches of rain in northeast Harrison county and 2.4 inches in the northwest.

Lacy says those flash floods subsided once the rain was over, filling drainage ditches. He says drivers are encouraged to drive cautiously and stay out of any standing water.

He says that as more storms crossed the area Tuesday afternoon, both the Biloxi River and the Tchoutacaboeuffa (SHOO-tuh-kuh-BUFF) River were nearing flood stage.
